井原市は古くから綿花や藍の栽培が盛んで、明治～大正時代には「備中小倉織」と呼ばれる厚地の藍染織物が生産されるようになりました。1960年代に入ると日本でジーンズが流行し、アメリカ産デニム生地と備中小倉織のひとつ「裏白」が同様のものだったことをきっかけに、ジーンズづくりやデニム生地の生産がはじまりました。その歴史と技術、品質の高さを受け継いだ現存の染工所や特殊加工所の協力のもと、デニムの聖地「井原市」で、地場だからこそ作れる生地を織り続けています。

Ibara City has long been a major cotton and indigo grower, and during the Meiji and Taisho periods, thick indigo-dyed fabric called “Bicchu Kokuraori” was produced. 1960's jeans became popular in Japan, and the similarity between American denim fabric and “Urahaku,” one of Bicchu Kokuraori fabrics, led to the production of jeans and denim fabric, The production of jeans and denim fabrics began. With the cooperation of existing dyehouses and special processing plants that have inherited the history, technology, and high quality of these fabrics, we continue to weave fabrics that can only be made locally in Ibara City, the sacred land of denim.

実際にデニム生地を織っているのは織機ですが、織る前段階の糸番手の選定や織りの強度の設定、出来上がりの生地の表情のシュミレーション等は、長年の経験に裏付けされた職人の「感覚」が頼りになります。また、織っている最中も織機に常に目を配り、糸切れ時の補修や機械の微調整等を職人が手作業で行っています。長年デニム生地製造に携わっているからこそ蓄積された、技術以外の部分「感覚」が当店独自の個性的なヴィンテージデニムづくりにつながっています。

Although the loom actually weaves the denim fabric, the selection of yarn count, setting of weaving strength, and simulation of the finished fabric's expression rely on the “sense” of the craftsman, backed up by his many years of experience. Also, during the weaving process, the craftsman always keeps an eye on the loom, making repairs when threads break, fine-tuning the machine, etc., by hand. The “sense” that we have accumulated through our long experience in denim fabric production, in addition to our technical skills, leads to the creation of our unique vintage denim.
